Geohistory - Rocks from Volcanic Islands Period
Geosites / Nishinoshima Town
Mt. Takuhi, the highest mountain in the Dōzen Islands, is the volcano that erupted inside the caldera during the later part of Dōzen's volcanic activity.
Takuhi Shrine, located partway up the mountain, has been revered since long ago as a deity of safe sea voyage. This is thought to be because the watch fires at the shrine on Dōzen's highest mountain acted as a lighthouse, serving as a sign for sailors.
