Ichnofossils, Shimazushima Island

Here you can see fossilized burrows, the homes of creatures who dug holes in the sand at the bottom of the sea long ago. Around 6 million years ago, when the Dōzen Islands were in their volcanic islands period, this area is thought to have been at the bottom of the shallow sea around Dōzen.
