Nature Sites / Okinoshima Town
Within this forest there is a precious natural forest of Japanese cedar trees (Criptomeria japonica). There are 811 natural Japanese cedar trees growing here that are estimated to be between 200 and 400 years old. Other large trees can be seen here as well, including Japanese thuja (Thuja standishii), Japanese zelkova (Zelkova serrata), katsura trees (Cercidiphyllum japonicum), and others. In May, the beautiful pink flowers of the Oki rhododendron (Rhododendron japonoheptamerum var. okiense) bloom throughout this area, and it is used as a hiking course.
