Lifestyles and Traditions - Festivals
Held on the last Saturday and Sunday of July, odd-numbered years, at Yurahime Shrine (Uragō area, Nishinoshima Town)
On the morning of this festival, rituals and dedicatory sumo take place. Later in the evening, the mikoshi portable shrine is paraded to the port where the sacred ship is docked. The mikoshi is then brought aboard the sacred ship and cruises Uragō Bay for about an hour, while Dōzen Kagura shinto dances are performed in front of the mikoshi. After the ship is docked, the mikoshi is brought to a temporary lodging for the deity, and paraded back to Yurahime Shrine the next day.
