Collaborative Conservation Bus Tour “Know the Unique Nature of the Oki Islands and Protect It with Your Own Hands” Held!
On June 1, 2024 (Saturday), the “Collaborative Conservation Bus Tour ‘Know the Unique Nature of the Oki Islands and Protect It with Your Own Hands’” was held in partnership with Okinoshima Town and Okinoshima Town Board of Education. This tour, aimed at island residents, facilitated understanding of the natural world unique to the Oki Islands and included participation in activities to protect that unique nature.
25 participants gathered on the day to listen to their in-bus tour guide, a student at Shimane Prefectural Oki High School. At Kumi Coast, a researcher of our Bureau gave an on-site explanation about the unique ecosystem of the Oki Islands. Furthermore, participants weeded out lance-leaved tickseed (Coreopsis lanceolata), an invasive alien species, under the guidance of a ranger from the Ministry of the Environment.
We believe that every participant was able to reaffirm for themselves the richness of nature on the Oki Islands and the importance of preserving it. We will continue to partner with the local area and do our part in protecting local treasures.
