【Event ended】 “Rugosa Rose, A Precious Species Left in Fuse” Chat

This event has already ended.

Have you ever heard of the plant “rugosa rose (Rosa rugosa)?” This plant is related to the rose and is often found in cold places, such as Hokkaido.

Once, many of them used to grow on the coast of the Oki Islands. However, due to human interference and changes in the environment, the specimens on Kasuga-no-ura Beach in the Fuse area are believed to be the last wild-grown ones these days.
Our conservation efforts of the rugosa rose started because of our strong belief that we cannot allow such a precious species to die out.

As a part of those activities, we conduct genetic research on the rugosa rose. This time, we invite everyone to this relaxed chat focused on reporting about this genetic research to discuss what rugosa rose was like in the past and how we can protect it moving forward.

Anyone is welcome to participate. We hope to see you there!
