Geohistory - Rocks from Volcanic Islands Period
Geosites / Okinoshima Town
This perfectly circular pond is around 250 m in diameter and home to a thriving ecosystem. It is a good location for environmental workshops and eco tours. In the past there were many theories about how the pond formed, such as it being a remnant of a volcanic crater or a meteorite impact site. However, a recent study revealed that the pond was created by a large-scale landslide from the surrounding cliffs. A depression then formed in the center and filled with water, eventually creating Yui Pond.
