Lifestyles and Traditions - Festivals
Held every year on July 23–24 at Takuhi Shrine (Mita area, Nishinoshima Town)
At this festival, after a mikomai (shrine maiden dance) is dedicated to the deity, Dōzen Kagura shinto dances are performed all night long. Also held at Takuhi Shrine is the Ryūtō-sai Festival, held on the night of New Year's Eve to symbolize the origin of Takuhi Gongen. Furthermore, there is a practice of worshiping the sacred fire during the New Year; nowadays it is passed down through the generations as Hatsumairi, where local residents of the Dōzen Islands visit the shrine in turn from the 5th day of the Lunar New Year.
