Funagoya are small boat houses used to protect boats from wind and rain. The boat houses in Tsuma area are built with traditional methods and materials, and are located right on the shore so that boats can be pulled directly into them from the water. This scenery can only be seen in fishing villages on the Sea of Japan side of the country, thanks to the Sea of Japan's small tidal range throughout the year.
