【Accepting Applications】Applications for FY2025 “Subsidy for Oki Islands UGGp Academic Research” Open

The Oki Islands Geopark Management Bureau subsidizes research involving the Oki Islands that is conducted by undergraduate students, graduate students, and researchers in order to add to the growing body of scientific knowledge about the Oki Islands UGGp. 

We hope that you will consider applying. 

There is a change from last year’s application. Please be sure to read the application guidelines before applying.  


1.Projects Eligible for Subsidy  

Research involving the Oki Islands that falls under one of the following categories.  

【Subsidy for Academic Research Projects, New】  

Research in the human/social sciences or natural sciences that involves the Oki Islands and with results presentable during fiscal year 2025 

【Subsidy for Academic Research Projects, Continued】  

Research in the human/social sciences or natural sciences that received a subsidy within the past three years from Oki Islands Geopark Management Bureau with results presentable during fiscal year 2025 

Additionally, application for a research topic under continued research is allowed a maximum of three times.  

*Any research that increases the significance of the Oki Islands, including those that are conducted outside of the islands, are eligible for this subsidy.   

 

2.Entities Eligible for Subsidy

Individuals or groups from the following categories are eligible to receive a subsidy:

(1)Undergraduate or graduate students currently enrolled in a postsecondary institution

(2)Persons engaged in research at organizations such as research facilities

(3)Researchers otherwise verified by the board chairman of Oki Islands Geopark Management Bureau

 

 3.Subsidies Available 

Planned at around three (3) for new research and three (3) for continued research 

 

4.Subsidy Purpose and Amount 

(1) Expenses Eligible for Subsidy Use 

Subsidy money must be used for direct expenses necessary for the subsidized research to be conducted, purposes which are recorded on the List of Subsidy Expenses (Appendix 1). Personnel expenses, including daily allowances for applicants and co-researchers, and overhead expenses necessary to the operation and administration of the group they are affiliated to are not eligible expenses.    

(2) Subsidy Amount 

One research topic can receive up to JPY 200,000/year.  

The Geopark Management Bureau funds 100% of eligible expenses. For subsidized research, one eligible entity may receive one subsidy for one research topic. Additionally, this subsidy program allows entities to combine funding from other sources on the same research topic. 

 

5.Application Deadline

Must be received by May 7, 2025 (Wed) 

Incomplete applications may not be processed, so please be sure to submit your application ahead of the deadline to accommodate any requests for missing or incomplete information pertaining to your application.
