Water Environment Traveling Exhibition (5/3-15, 2024)

From May 3 to 15, the educational Let’s Think about How Water Travels water cycle exhibit was displayed in the free space outside of the Oki Islands Geopark Museum This exhibition was created during fiscal year 2023 by the Headquarters for Water Cycle Policy Office belonging to the national government’s Cabinet Secretariat in order to deepen interest and understanding about the importance of a healthy water cycle. Beginning in Okinoshima Town, Shimane Prefecture, this exhibition traveled to 15 various facilities around Japan.

In addition to the educational exhibit about the water cycle, exhibits about Okinoshima Town’s tap water system and adult Oki Tago frogs (Rana okiensis), which were reclassified from a subspecies to an endemic species in 2023, were also displayed.

Also, Dangyō-no-taki Spring (Okinoshima Town) and Tengawa-no-mizu Spring (Ama Town), places designated as a few of the Top 100 Exquisite and Well-Conserved Waters of Japan, were introduced alongside Kawai Spring (Chibu Village), one of the Top 100 Exquisite and Well-Conserved Waters of Shimane Prefecture, conveying the fine qualities of water environments.

This was a chance for people from the Oki Islands and beyond to learn how the plentiful water resources of the islands have shared their gifts with the people and fostered the island’s precious plants and animals.
